A CENTURY from teenager Sam Smith was not enough to give Heathcoat victory at home to Axminster, who held on for a draw in the B Division of the Francis Clark Devon League.

The 16-year-old scored 114 as the hosts piled up 266-9 but they could not bowl out the visitors who held on at 187-7. Heathcoat remain in second place.

Shobrooke were dismissed for 167 away to Abbotskerswell, despite an unbeaten 66 from skipper Jonathan James. The home team reached their target for the loss of three wickets.

Sandford continued their climb up the Premier Division with a six-wicket victory at home to Paignton. Douglas Hondo and Jamie Palmer bagged three wickets each as the visitors were bowled out for 159.

Skipper Richard Foan then rattled up a quickfire 68 to help his side home for the loss of four wickets.

Bradninch remain top of the A Division, despite going down by 83 runs away to Cornwood.

Ryan Butterworth snapped up four wickets as the home team reached 200-8. However, Bradninch were skittled out for 117 and crashed to their second defeat of the season. However, they maintain a healthy lead at the top.

Clyst Hydon continued their charge towards the C Division title with a 65-run win over Chagford. John Rhodes’ 48 was the top score in Clyst’s 199-9. Kevin Sercombe then picked up 6-45 to help bowl Chagford for 134.

Jeff Robinson (46 not out) and Andy Blake (40 not out) were in the runs for Tiverton and Bickleigh in their seven-wicket victory over Kilmington.

Andy Pengelly had been Tivvy’s top man with the ball, taking 6-32 as Kilmington were all out for 136.
